Riley Sebastian

Hi, I’m Riley!

I am a Wayne State University student who aims to provide trauma-informed care to any child, adolescent, or family in need. It is my passion to provide therapeutic treatment for children and adolescents with trauma, anxiety, depression, and OCD. Overall, I strive to create a compassionate, empathetic environment where all clients feel safe to share their experiences.

My Background & Approach

I am currently pursuing my Master of Social Work at Wayne State University. I am in my second and final year of the program, and I have previous social work experience with Venture Counseling Group. At Venture Counseling, I facilitated group therapy using the Duluth Model, a domestic violence intervention program. Some group discussions have included conversations about the functions of emotions, emotional regulation, childhood experiences, and trauma. I also have a Bachelor of Arts, with a major in psychology and a minor in sociology.

My combined educational experience provided me with solid a person-in-environment perspective, which allows me to recognize that while an individual has their own unique struggles, there are also societal issues that contribute to that individual’ struggles.

My current approach involves using psychodynamic, strength-based, and person-centered modalities, but it is my goal to also learn Trauma-Informed CBT and EMDR. Every person is different, so having different tools as a therapist will allow me to cater to my clients’ needs, providing them with a better, more efficient, therapeutic experience.
